Today in class I became certified in BLS with AED. This is basically CPR on adults, children, or infants as well as the use of a AED machine if necessary. I cannot stress enough how very important it is to be certified in CPR. I think it is something we all should do, regardless of our professions or lifestyles. Learning CPR can give you the tools you need to potentially save some one's life in a life-threatening situation. There is CPR and first aid training for community persons who are not healthcare providers and I strongly recommend this for everyone.

The American Heart Association offers a variety of training including hands only CPR, CPR and First Aide, CPR/BLS AED training, etc. They also have great tips online and can help you recognize the signs of cardiac arrest.

If you are interested in taking a course you can visit the American Heart Association. Please remember, you can make the difference between life and death with the right training.
About a month ago I bought some avocados because they do not grow in my region. I had read that you can grow an avocado as a houseplant. It will not produce fruit because it is not hardy here, but it can make a beautiful tree, house plant in your home.
I then planted it in potting soil. Two weeks later it finally sprouted! I gave it a good rinse and planted in back in potting soil. I am anxious to see it grow into a beautiful plant!
You always hear people talking about getting out there, doing more, or working towards something better. What if you already have the better? Could it be that some people are just never awake to the happiness in their own lives? I can't argue that I have never had that feeling people talk about. That feeling of wanting something more. The crazy thing is that I have already been there and back. Thomas and I went from nothing materially to anything we wanted to buy. Now? We enjoy the simple things like watching new movie releases that come out on Tuesdays, canoeing on the pond, taking a rope and tying off to the floater at the lake in our little inflatable fish boat, taking a wild ride on the dirt bike through the trails, etc. Our life is simple. We don't go all out trying to buy the latest gadget, take huge trips across the world, or look to improve our life materially. We simply enjoy our simple life. We have a lot of love in our house (have I mentioned there are six of us?).

Tonight Thomas got off work an hour early and I was so excited because I got to see his face an extra hour today. Does that make my life simple? Probably. But the little things like that extra hour or the fact that I simply made BLT sandwiches for supper and he told me "thank you baby that was so good, it really was," is amazing! I like my simple life and wouldn't change it for the world. I think those who have the greatest golds in the world could never be as happy as I am right now.
Time for back to school again. With each new school years come a dent in the wallet! This year I decided I am going to do a special giveaway for my readers. School supplies are not always expensive, but they can add up fast. I have four children and shopping for school supplies sometimes can be a nightmare. I always want to get the best deal and the best quality. I have found that shopping at Wal-Mart for school supplies is always the best way to go. I get the name brand products at a great price and the kids are always happy. Another great feature is that I can look up all of the supply lists for my kids' schools right at Wal-Mart.
I have blogged more for reviewing and advertising in the past. Of course I always did writing about my interest. I decided it was finally time for me to branch off and do something just for me. That is why I decided to start a brand new blog- a me blog. A place where I can go just to write or journal about the important things in my life. I am usually a very busy woman, but busy in a way of a simple life. I am a mother of four busy bee children, engaged to a great man, and am the queen bee of my home buried in the heart of America- Iowa.

My children are 13, 9, 8, and 7. I have two boys and two girls. My sweetheart also has an eighteen year old daughter that lives in California. My hard-working man works at least forty hours a week, Monday through Friday every single week. It works hard and provides a good home for our children and I. He works in construction and does a variety of things like pouring concrete, painting, drywalling, putting in septic tanks, demo, etc. I guess he is what you would call the Jack of all trades in the construction department. I just finished my Associates of Arts degree at Indian Hills Community College. I am now in the Practical Nursing program and just about to the end of my first term of it. I have roughly nine months until I will be a nurse. From there I plan to go on to my RN and then eventually get my Bachelor's degree in Nursing.

Other than being a student, I am a full-blown homemaker. I spend my days cooking, cleaning, and taking care of my family in any way needed on a daily basis. I run all the errands, send out the bills, do the shopping, doctor appointments, school activities, and anything else required on any given day.

When I decided to start a new blog, I knew I wanted it to be something special just for me. I started the Heartland Homemaker because I believe that is truly the root of who I am. I spend my every day taking care of the family I love and always trying new ways to make life simple, fulfilled, and enjoyable. I have many journeys ahead of me in my life and I hope that someone out there can enjoy my story along the way.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09777131316693349901noreply@blogger.com0
